How Owning Your Past Will Set You Free

Here’s a little transformation story…

But let me preface this by saying, ALL transformation starts within.

Five years ago, I hit rock bottom. I had enough! I left everything and took a sabbatical from life. I didn’t know who I was or where I was going. All I knew was, I was miserable and unhappy. I just wanted a “perfect” life. And as I set out (once again) to chase perfection, I began questioning everything. What IS perfection? Does it even exist? What does it feel like? What does it look like? Where do I find it? And so on…

You see, when you’re miserable and unhappy, you’ll do anything not to feel “pain” anymore, and I wanted to move as far away from it as possible. By leaving everything and starting over, I no longer had distractions or people to blame for my outcomes. I became fully aware of myself, my actions, habits, behaviors, beliefs, lies, excuses, and stories. And for the first time, I took FULL responsibility for my life. I just needed to figure this out on my own. I finally saw it–life wasn’t happening to me, it was happening for me. Looking back, I wish I had done this a lot sooner, but when you’re stuck in the pit of your own shit, it’s hard to see an alternative. And that’s why it took hitting bottom to get through finally. I had two choices, sit in the pit, or get out. I chose the latter, and although I wish there were ONE thing that skyrocketed me out of the hole, there wasn’t. And to be honest, even if there were, I wouldn’t have had any idea what I was doing or going, somedays, I still don’t, that’s the beauty of life, figuring things out as you go. No one has a plan or step-by-step guidebook for life. We must figure out what does and doesn’t work, what serves us, and no longer serve us, what we choose and not choose. We all know that for every actionthere is an equal and opposite reaction.

If you want to know how you ended up where you’re at and wonder where you will be in 1 day or 10 years, take a look at what you’re currently doing. Remember, nothing changes if nothing changes. If you want a different life or results, do something different. Start making changes, start small, and start now. It’s your life. Are you living for You or Them?
